A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, on Thursday, declared his intention to contest the governorship election in Oyo State come 2023.

Adelabu, who is one of the governorship aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, declared his ambition at a well-attended ceremony in Ibadan where he scored Governor Seyi Makinde low in every aspect of governance, saying he would send him out in 2023 with the massive support of the electorate.

He said the people of the state were highly dissatisfied with Makinde’s performance adding that they were already in a hurry to remove him from office by their ballots.

Adelabu, who lost to Makinde in 2019 said although he scored a very high number of votes at the poll, it was not the will of God for him to win then. He said the leaders of the APC who teamed up to give Makinde the victory were back in the APC and they were now supporting him.

He said, “I am happy that we are all alive now that we are ready to send Seyi packing. Seyi has gone already and that is certain. It is now the time that I, Adebayo Adelabu, will take over from Seyi in 2023.

“Seyi has failed in every aspect. He has failed woefully in security, education, health, agriculture, and other areas. But all the mistakes of 2019 will be corrected in 2023.

“Seyi has cheated the Oke Ogun people. The road from Ibadan to Iseyin is not supposed to be a single lane, it should be a double lane and Governor Abiola Ajimobi paid for it before he left. “What are they still doing in government if they can’t do anything in education, security, agriculture, and health?

“He has sold Agbowo Shopping Complex which was built by late Chief Boka Ige, he sold it N50bn. He spends N250m on diesel (to power streetlights) every month. He said he was worth N48bn before he became governor – a lie. Where is his company here in Oyo State? Let him mention 10 indigenes of Oyo State he employed here in his company. Everything is being taken to the US.”

Adelabu said his administration if voted into power, would solve insecurity, address the rot in the education and health sectors and turn the state into the food basket of the nation.

Some of the leaders of the APC, who attended the declaration were a former Deputy Governor, Alake Adeyemo; Senator Ayoade Adeseun; Former Speaker Olagunju Ojo, and ex-Secretary to State Government, Chief Sharafadeen Ali among others.

The former deputy governor said Adelabu had the needed experience to turn around the economy and other sectors in the state.
