The Executive Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed turns is a year older today, December 29, 2017. Kwara Daily has compiled some facts you probably did not know about Abdulfatah Ahmed, fondly called Sai Maigida.
Dr Abdulfatah Funsho Ayinla Ahmed hails from Adebiopon Compound, Share in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State. He was born on December 29, 1963 in Kaduna State to the family of a retired Police Officer, Alhaji & Alhaja Olokoba.
He had his secondary education at the Government College, Funtua, Katsina State between 1973 and 1978, before proceeding to the school of Basic Studies, Kwara State College of Technology (now known as Kwara State Polytechnic), Ilorin between 1978 and 1980 for his ‘A’ Levels.
Ahmed later attended the prestigious University of Ilorin, where he earned a B.Sc. in Chemistry in 1986, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in 1992 to add to his administrative acumen. He also attended the Manchester School of Business, and the J.F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, USA in 2004.
Alhaji Ahmed began his Teaching career at the Government Secondary School, Ilorin where he taught Chemistry, before he was appointed a lecturer in the Organic Chemistry Department of the Federal College of Arts and Science, Sokoto in Sokoto State and later became the Acting Head of Department between 1986 and 1990. He also had a stint at the College of Education, Technical, Lafiagi, Kwara State.
Thereafter, Ahmed moved to the corporate sector to began a career in banking. He held several key positions including Assistant Manager at District savings and Leans, Lagos between 1991 and 1993.
He then moved to the Guaranty Trust Bank Plc where he served in the Credit and Marketing Unit. In 1998, he joined Society Generale Bank Nig. Ltd as a Senior Manager/Group Head, Consumer Banking and later Public Sector Group for the North West region. He later returned to GT Bank as Head of Institutional Banking Group for the Northern region.
Alhaji Ahmed was appointed Commissioner for Finance in 2003 by the then Kwara State Governor, Dr. Bukola Saraki, who is now the Senate President of Nigeria.
As a commissioner in charge of Kwara State finances, Abdulfatah Ahmed displayed extra-ordinary financial prudence and acumen, which twice earned the State Government excellent rating by the Fitch Rating International (An International Rating Agency) – the very first by any State Government in Nigeria.
In 2011, Alhaji Ahmed was elected the 6th Executive Governor of Kwara State, succeeding Bukola Saraki. He later won a second term in office in 2015.
Alhaji Ahmed is married to Deaconess Omolewa Ahmed and they are blessed with three beautiful children (one male and two females). The male child, Pelumi, is the eldest
