Emerging details have indicated that the violence that disrupted the All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Ogun State was caused my members of Allied People’s Movement (APM), a party been sponsored by governor Ibikunle Amosun.
The President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Ogun state on Monday was greeted with violence with attacks on the likes of APC chairman, Adam Oshiomhole, the party governorship candidate, President Buhari and other party chieftains present.
It all started when Oshimole was invited to the podium for his speech. As he began to speak, persons suspected to be hoodlums started throwing stones at him and one of the stones flew in the direction where the President was sitting. He was saved by one of the security operatives who took the hit for the President.
The development angered the leaders of the party, including former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, who left the podium while the President was making his remarks. The program was paused for some minutes following the violence.
After a temporary calm, the rally commenced again with President Buhari reinstating his commitment to Nigerians with a vow to take Nigeria to the next level, he held up the hand of the party governorship candidate, Dapo Abiodun while other party leaders including governor Amosun stood at the front roll waving to the crowd.
With Dapo hands up, the thugs who are displaying APM banners started melting stones at both him and President Buhari.
The incident was said to have angered the president and he left the venue of the rally without concluding his speech amidst tight security. The president walking out of the rally made other party leaders to also abandoned the rally and left leaving Governor Amosu behind.
While most leaders of the party were gone, mammoth APM’s Thugs with banners cheers Amosun to the gate of MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, the venue of the rally.
