Thomas Tuchel’s first game in charge of the Blues ended in a draw against Wolves.

Callum Hudson-Odoi had a brilliant game and gave the defenders of Wolves a torrid time with his mazy runs, tricks and crosses.

After the game, he revealed the plans his new manager has for him. The Chelsea winger explained that although he played in an unfamiliar full-back role, the coach gave him instructions to play in a direct manner.

It seems Hudson-Odoi will have a fine time under the German tactician as he named him in his first lineup.

Toward the end of Lampard’s reign as the Stamford Bridge boss, Lampard left Hudson-Odoi out of his starting lineup and it looked as if the winger’s development stagnated.

But, Tuchel gave him a major confidence booster by playing him in an unfamiliar role as a wing-back where the youngster shone brightly.

Former England National Team Manager, Glenn Hordle named Hudson-Odoi as his man-of-the-match because of the persistent threat the Chelsea winger caused the defence of the Wolves side.

After one training session with the German tactician, Hudson-Odoi shared some details of the instructions he was given for the game.

He told the Chelsea official website that the role was unfamiliar to him and it was his first time he tried playing that role when he was on the training pitch with his new manager. Even though it was new to him, it did not prove a problem and he felt okay with the new role.

He explained he is ready to do his best for the team and the manager. He will follow the manager’s instructions no matter the role the manager gives him to play.

The boss instructions to him was to play as direct as possible and cause the full-backs of the opposing sides difficulties.

“He wants me to be as direct and to keep getting at full-backs and defenders as much as possible.”

The boss wants the team to have a direct approach in games, which will give the offensive players space to score goals.

Tuchel wants Hudson-Odoi to stay high when the team is on the offensive and work the flank with his work rate.

“I try to break the line and keep doing different movements to get the ball.”

The manager wants to see the offensive players making movements behind the defence of the opposition to give their teammates chances to make good passes.
