Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State is not leaving anything to chance to give the state what it takes to turn it to a megacity and even a smartcity.

Apart from his massive infrastructural projects as well as rural/urban development with enviable designer projects, the Governor is also interested in the political affairs of the state.

Lagosians would recall that the local government election of last year almost led to serious divisions in the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the Governor slugged it out with some leaders of the party in choosing candidates for some Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

As if that was not enough, the issues of who became the Secretaries to the Local Governments and Supervisory Councilors across the Local Governments and LCDAs also became a serious contention between the Governor and some party leaders.

One personality that had serious clashes with the Governor on this contentious issue was the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.

Sources close to the two gladiators informed Yemoja News that the matter led to serious crisis between the Governor and the Speaker to the extent that Governor allegedly contracted some lawmakers in the Assembly to help him impeach the Speaker.

It was revealed that the impeachment did not succeed because the Governor could not get up to 10 out of the remaining 39 lawmakers to his side for the project.

This has since reportedly led to serious divisions in the state house of assembly as we were told that the Speaker now regard those, who are close to the Governor as his enemies, though some of them used to be close to him.

Yemoja News investigations revealed that one of the lawmakers regarded by the Speaker as those on the side of the Governor and who spearheaded the impeachment move is the Chairman of the House Committee on Information and Strategy, Hon. Tunde Braimoh, who we were told was very close to the Speaker in the past.

Sources stated that the impeachment move was further foiled by lawmakers in the camp of Speaker Obasa, who reportedly went to meet the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and warned him that if Obasa was removed it would be easy for Governor Ambode to take over the political structure of Lagos.

One of the signs that there is no love lost between the Governor and the state Assembly, a source revealed is the absence of representatives of the state assembly, when the Governor signed some bills into law and when he later signed the 2018 Appropriation Bill into law.

The lateness of the Governor in signing the 2018 Appropriation Bill was because ‘the Governor properly scrutinized all the amendments done by the House, and for the first time in history, no representative of the Assembly was present at the signing,’ said a source.

We were further informed that Governor Ambode is not resting on his oars in his bid to kick out Spearker Obasa as the number one man in the Lagos House of Assembly.

Meanwhile, a clear message was sent to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode by the Agege community in Lagos yesterday after endorsing the governor for a second term insisted that Hon. Mudashiru Obasa be supported to return as the Speaker of the state House of Assembly.
