As part of its initiatives to celebrate World Health Day, New Heights Pharma embarks on raising hypertension awareness in Nigeria with a donation of OMRON blood pressure monitors to the Lagos State Primary Care Board and 5-days free screening of civil servants within the secretariat.
Main goal of this screening is to raise awareness of the causes and consequences of high blood pressure, to provide information and to encourage adults to check their blood pressure regularly with validated and registered devices.
“We decided to add our voice to the campaign for proper monitoring of blood pressure through associating with the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Primary Health Board”, says Mr. Ogheneochuko Omaruaye, Managing Director of New Heights Pharma, “To mark World Health Day on April 7, 2013, WHO is calling for intensified efforts to prevent and control high blood pressure. High blood pressure -called also hypertension- increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes and kidney failure. Worldwide, one in three adults has high blood pressure. In Nigeria, 16 million adults are estimated to be hypertensive and 92% are not aware! ”
Accepting the blood pressure monitors, Lagos state Honourable Commissioner for health Dr Jide Idris represented by Permanent Secretary Ministry of health, Dr. Femi Olugbile commended New Heights Pharma Ltd for lending voice to the global campaign through the donation of Omron blood Pressure Monitors as well as the screening/ health check up programme within the complex.
The commissioner highlighted the importance of the day in the annals of the calendar of health practitioners as well as the general public and advised that the check up should not be limited to the event of today but rather be part of the daily activities of all.
Other dignitaries present at the event were permanent secretary public services office, Mr. Faroudeen Akodu, Head of service, Adesegun Ogunlewe, Chairman primary health care board, Dr. Babatunde Sagoe among others.
