Senator Akin Odunsi has advised some selfish and unscrupulous Ado Odo/Otta LG chieftains to stop the
meddlesomeness and stay away from his constituency projects. According to the lawmaker, some local
chieftains in Ado Odo / Otta LG, Ogun West Senatorial District, have been misleading and misinforming
the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun to undermine his constituency projects and present same in bad light.

“Political expediency should not take over the welfare of the people which was my reason for fighting to return the projects to the front burner of our community development,” he said.

Senator Odunsi listed three instances where the Ado Odo/Otta Local Government in cahoot with local party chieftains had attempted to trample on his efforts at providing welfare and democracy dividends to
his constituents. These, he said, include the disruption of the commissioning of the Ijamido Town Hall in Otta in August, the stop-work order issued on December 11, 2013 by the State Urban and Regional Planning Department on the construction work at the Cassava Processing Integrated Industry for Women in the rural community of Alapoti and the erection of a signpost on the Ilo-Ifako link road between Lagos and Ogun States.

The local government also said it was on the site to renovate the Ilo-Ifako bridge/culvert. Tracing the history of the project, Odunsi said he had intervened when the makeshift bridge the residents erected had collapsed after a heavy downpour in February, 2013. “I personally paid an on-the-spot visit to the place. Thereafter, I mobilised the Ministry of works’ engineers and they assessed the extent of damage. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development at the federal level later came to clear the debris at my instance. Where was the LGA and State government in all these?”, the vice chairman of the Senate Committee on the Nigerian Air Force queried.

He advised the local chieftains to be more creative in their 2015 design, adding that the continued
marginalisation of his people had been of concern to him more than the 2015 agenda. “It is therefore
surprising and utterly provocative that the Local Government that has been apathetic to the plight of the
people along that axis will now motion to be prepared to fix the bridge by merely placing a sign post
at the site.

I do not understand the State’s position, except that it was the promoter of the local government agenda,” he added.

The Senator said he had in the spirit of “the letter-writing season” notified the party leadership officially of “the covetousness and duplicity” of the Ado Odo/Otta LG and their acolytes who he said are “working at cross-purposes with me.

I have been constrained to write to the party leadership to call them to order. I also notified the Police
authorities on this sad development to forestall a breakdown of law and order that could be spawned by this adversarial stance of the State against the Ogun West people. I also urge the media to watch the political development in his Senatorial District,” the Senator concluded.
