Sometimes ago, cordial relationship existed between Ekiti state Governor, Ayo Fayose and Avian Specialties and Biological Concepts boss, Gbenga James. Among other friends, the duos are mostly referred to as 5 & 6, a local parlance for very close friendship.
But the relationship scattered like a badly arranged cards few years ago, when the EFCC arrested Gbenga James over a 800 million naira poultry project where he acted as Consultant to Ekiti State during Ayo Fayose’s first term in office. Gbenga James was said to have been used as a witness by the EFCC to nail Fayose, who was then impeached and escaped out of the country to evade arrest.
People close to them claimed the EFCC drama created bad blood between the friends. Fayose was said to have labelled Gbenga James ‘an ingrate’ and ‘betrayer’ as he learnt the role he (Gbenga James) played by revealing some documents used to implement charges against him. Some close friends insisted that Ayo Fayose will retaliate no matter how long.
In recent times, Gbenga James, a Obafemi Awolowo University alumni, has been a victim of assassination attempts, acts some alleged to be from Ayo Fayose.
The first of the attack was at a supermarket in Jericho, Ibadan where he was brutally injured. The attack prompted him to move around with armed security men.
Few months ago, a six-men gang stormed Gbenga James’s Elewura, Ibadan office and shot him repeatedly. The gunmen were said to have left the attack venue after making calls to the initiator that the deal has been done.
A source hinted that Gbenga James was discovered in the pool of his blood by one of his staffers who alerted other people and he was ferried to the hospital.
The Avian boss was claimed to have undergone some major surgeries in an undisclosed hospital in Ibadan before he was discharged and kept under
medical observation at home. Those in the know said his Iyaganku has been taken over by a group of private guards contracted to provide adequate security for him.
When contacted by www.societyreelnews, Gbenga James acknowledged he was attacked but refuted that it’s the handiwork of Governor Fayose.
“NO, Ayo Fayose can never do that, he is not that type. Many people misconstrue him. Yes, I was attacked by 6 people in my office. SARS in Ibadan caught them and after 34 days they were paraded and they confess to the crime but whoever sent them I don’t know yetâ€
