Thousands attend 2016 Jehovah’s Witnesses convention

assembly-866x428For the past three weeks, thousands of people have been trooping to Large Auditoriums, in  to attend the 2016 annual general convection of Jehovah’s witnessesin Nigeria..Ota,Daluwon,Badagry,and Lekki are centres for Lagos,Ogun and environs.

The theme for this year’s convention is “Remain Loyal to Jehovah’’.

The convention programme examines how Jesus set a perfect example of being loyal to his father Jehovah and how followers of Christ can imitate his loyalty.

The fifteen-week convention, running from Friday August 26 to December 2016 will have three-day weekend programmes that focus on a theme of loyalty.

Each day begins around 8:30 a.m. and ends 4 p.m.

Specifically, the convention is aimed at providing opportunity for people from all walks of life to have access to the truth from the Bible and helped them remain loyal to God.

Already, at Ota Assembly, thousands of delegates are benefiting from the convention programme which provides Biblical support that promote strong family life, personal Bible studies and help people to see why Jehovah alone deserves our undivided loyalty.

In addition, the programme features Bible discourse that helps people develop stronger bonds with friends, with family members and, above all, with God.

Also, there are series of symposiums that help people to ‘’Hate What Jehovah Hates, Shun Unrepentant Wrongdoers and to be Forgiving’’.

The three-day programme series feature numerous presentations, each exploring the theme “loyalty” as various speakers elaborate on the Bible based programme.

Furthermore, there are Bible dramas, video segments specifically for the programme in addition to short films that are shown on Saturday and Sunday.On the yearly event, a spokesman for Jehovah’s Witnesses,Mr Afolabi Odeyemi, states: “We strongly believe that loyalty is an essential part of any healthy relationship. Our convention this year features content that will help people develop stronger bonds with friends, family members and, above all, with God. We are confident that all who attend will enjoy this program.”

Intrestingly, many of the attendees have expressed appreciation for the spiritual banquet.

For instance, Thomas, a compulsive gambler who lives in Lagos had become dissatisfied with religion.

Amazed by the pastor’s persistent emphasis on money, he stopped attending all religious services. Yet, he continued to read his Bible daily.

He engrossed himself in his Bible study, made rapid progress, and was baptized at the 2016 Convention. After attending the convention, he said “I am now ready to leave false religion.”

Narrating how she came in contact with witnesses she said ‘’few years ago, Jehovah’s Witnesses knocked at my door and introduced Bible study to me, which I accepted. Since, I was reluctant to follow them to the kingdom hall; I directed two of my children to do so. Three of my children are now baptized and I am the happiest woman in the world today because I dedicated my life to Jehovah in water baptism’’.

Worldwide, there are over 8 million witnesses in more than 115,000 congregations.The series of conventions would be held throughout Nigeria in English, Nigerian Pidgin, Igbo,  Gun, Efik, American sign language (ASL), Yoruba,  Isoko, Esan, Ijaw, Urhobo, Abua, Edo, French, Khana, Okpe, Hausa and khogana
