The Ohimegye Opanda, Alhaji Usman Abdullahi, has conferred the traditional title of ‘Ohireku Opanda’ on Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma, while Alhaji Aliko Dangote was conferred with ‘Dan Malikin Opanda’ in a colourful ceremony held at Umuaisha, Toto local government area of the state.

Abdullahi, a chief of first class status, conferred the traditional titles on eminent Nigerians as part of events marking his 20th anniversary on the throne.

Other awardees include Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura as ‘Wambai Opanda’, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu (APC-Nasarawa West) as ‘Asayidu Opanda’, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe, speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly as ‘Walin Opanda’.

The first class chief said that the honour accorded the awardees was in recognition of their positive contribution to the development of the kingdom, the state and the country at large.

“This event is indeed historic not just because it marks the 20th anniversary of my ascension to the exalted throne of Ohimegye Opanda but because it serves as an opportunity to look back at the origin of our ancient kingdom whose foundation dates as far as back as 265 years ago.”

The royal father called on all stakeholders to continue to assist his community and the state in order to improve the living condition of the people even as he appealed to the citizens of the state to continue to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of ethnic, religious and political differences.
